The training journal

The training journal is where everything around the training collects. The trainer writes after sessions, you write between them, and it stays with the dog once the course ends. There are two journals and they do different things. One belongs to a booked course and is shared with the trainer. The other belongs to the dog, follows it between courses and trainers, and is private.

The journal that belongs to the course

Every booking has its own journal. You find it on the booking under My Bookings, and it is there from the moment the place is booked. Both you and the trainer write in it. Every entry carries a date and the name of whoever wrote it, so you can follow what happened and in what order. The trainer usually writes after a session. You write what happened at home during the week, which the trainer would otherwise never hear. Either of you can attach one file and one video link to an entry. A clip of the dog says more about a problem than a description of it, and it stays with the entry instead of at the bottom of a chat.

Attendance and materials per session

The same page shows whether your dog attended each session. The trainer records attendance and you read it. An unmarked session shows as unmarked, not as absent. The usual reason a mark is missing is that the trainer has not got to it yet. If you take a session with another group instead, it is shown on the week it replaces, so that week does not read as missed. Course materials sit here too. A material can be tied to a particular session, in which case it becomes available once that session is over.

Goals and sub-goals

The trainer can set goals for your dog on the course and break a goal into sub-goals. You tick the sub-goals off yourself as you clear them. That is the only thing you change among the trainer's goals; the rest is theirs to write and update. A goal can carry a target date and a status: in progress, achieved or dropped. Dropped means you have set the goal aside, not that it went badly.

The dog's own training record

The dog's page has a record that belongs to the dog rather than to a course. You write your own notes there and set your own goals. It stays when the course ends, when you change trainer, and when you book the next course. Those notes are yours alone. No trainer can read them. The goals work differently, and that is deliberate. Goals you set for your dog are shared with the trainer while a course is running, so they can plan around what you want to work on. Once the run is completed or cancelled, they stop being shared. Goals you wrote before that sharing existed stay private and are marked as such. The dog's own record is text. Files and video links belong to the course journal.

Who sees what

An entry in the course journal is visible to you and to the people running that course run. The trainer can also write internal notes that only their own team reads. Those are never shown to you. So you do not see everything the trainer writes, but everything you do see was shared with you on purpose. The dog's own record is visible only to you. Your own goals are visible to the trainer while the course runs, as described above. None of this is public. The journal appears nowhere on the public pages and forms no part of reviews or course descriptions.

After the course ends

The journal does not end with the course. The dog's page has a Training history that collects goals and shared notes from every course the dog has taken. That is where you see what you have already worked on, and what you can pass on to a new trainer. If the trainer moves your booking to another run, the journal goes with it, along with the place, the payment and recorded attendance. A booking that already has notes cannot be moved to a different dog, because the notes are about the first one. Deleting the dog deletes its journal and goals. This is permanent and cannot be undone. Copy out anything you want to keep before you do.
